The Last Great American Dynasty Lyrics Rebekah rode up on the afternoon train It was sunny Her saltbox house on the coast Took her mind off St. Louis Bill was the heir to the Standard Oil name and money And the town said, "How did a middle-class divorcée do it?"   Alexis Spurlock  Dr. Vrooman COMM 378 17 October 2021 Ladies Lunching: Songs as Literary Texts  Introduction Until recently, songs were not necessarily thought of or considered as literary texts. While they resemble poetry, many still believe they are two completely separate forms of media and therefore cannot be counted together in the same category. In this paper, I will attempt to explain why songs lyrics could, in fact, be viewed as literature; as well as make a case for feminist literature in particular and how it can be applied to song lyrics written by the musical artist Taylor Swift.  Songs as Literature Throughout history, pop culture- such as music- and literature have been kept apart, being seen as separate things that do not overlap: each staying in its respective field.   Ladies Lunching: A Feminist Approach to Poetic Hits  Taylor Swift is one of the most prolific and popular artists of this generation. According to the feminst criticism definition, women writers have their own style, so in doing my analysis, I plan to find Taylor Swift’s unique style of writing, and how that style influences how feminine, or not, her songs are. There are also phases of feminist writing, which are Feminine, Feminist, and Female, and I plan to group these songs into those categories where they best fit. The definition also states that a lot of women writers have the option to play into the male dominated discourse, and support the patriarchy, or opt out an...
